What NFT games are and how they work

NFT games have become a rage among users who want to acquire special digital items through blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Explain what NFT games are and how they work, Canaltech he prepared an entire article that also emphasizes that titles make money and that it is safe to play them.

What is NFT?

It is an acronym for NFT non-fungal tokens, interpreted as a “fungible token” in free translation. The name may sound strange, but think about it: the word “token” can be interpreted as a kind of digital stamp or certificate; The word “fungible” is anything that can be exchanged for something of the same kind, without loss of value or increase.

Therefore, non-fungal tokens are classified as digital elements that cannot be replaced, exchanged, destroyed or copied. Even if there are copies of this product, the original NFT is the only one that correctly verifies its originality. In some cases, the artist or NFT owner may create more than one unit of their work, but there is usually only one version for most NFTs.

Here’s an example: Leonardo Da Vinci’s world-famous works such as “La Belle Ferronière” and “Mona Lisa” can be easily found on the Internet and can be downloaded or printed by anyone. However, the original pieces, which are unique, are on display at the Louvre Museum in France.

Da Vinci’s paintings, if sold on the Internet, could be classified as NFTs because they are non-fungible goods (they cannot be replaced), even if they contain millions of high-definition copies on the Internet.

What are NFT games?

Since almost anything can be turned into a non-fungible token on the Internet (photos, videos and GIFs, messages, audio files and other content), NFT games follow the same logic: transform an entire game or any element of that title into something.

What sets NFT games apart from other work is that games have invested in collectors to attract more people. Players, on the other hand, see the possibility of taking advantage of these exclusive pieces in these elements, as each NFT in the game is unique, which can be considered strange among players.

By the way, NFT-based games also link collectors created and obtained while the title is being played, called “in-game NFTs.” That is, the user can also transact with items collected during the gameplay and, as a result, earn money with items sold within the game.

How do NFT games work?

The gameplay varies depending on the game. However, most NFT titles follow the model play-win (play to win, free translation), in which the player earns a source of money (tokens) by playing the title in question. The more you play, the more you win. And that’s been the most common pattern, because the more advanced the player is, the better and rarer the items he gets during the game.

Do I have to pay to play NFT games?

Again, it depends on the person in charge of the game and the developer, because the latter can take the method that he considers useful for the application of NFTs.

Axie Infinite, for example, is one of the most popular NFT games today. To start playing, you must pay $ 1,200 (a direct conversion of R $ 6,720), which is the equivalent of the minimum requirement for three axies (wrapping monsters in the title) to enter the game. Each axie used by beginners sells for $ 400.

There are free options, such as the Gods Unchained card game. There is no charge for admission, and the player receives a deck of 140 cards. It turns out that these cards are not valid in the game, which means that NFT items that can be exchanged with other people are only acquired as the player progresses in the game.

Popular NFT games

While not the same reach as other titles, NFT games have been a hit among users who enjoy ways to win games. Some examples:

  • Infinite Axis;
  • Sorare;
  • God Unchained;
  • NFT Binance Collections;
  • Alien Worlds;
  • Splinterlands.

How do NFT games make money?

This also depends on the mechanics adopted by each NFT game. The traditional method is to play for-win titles, get rare items, and exchange them with other players in the future.

In most cases, NFTs are at stake, and can be clothing, weapons, equipment, and other items that are common in other games. With the difference, the player must buy an item from someone or sell an NFT in his character’s inventory. That, of course, is if the player is interested in doing that kind of negotiation.

In the usual games for computers, consoles, and mobile phones, where they sell cosmetic items that change the look of a character or item, the idea is to show it to other players, proving the weirdness of these parts. This is the same concept for NFT games. But instead of keeping the item locked in inventory, the player can make money by selling it to someone else.

It is important to note that just as the value of a game or NFC element can go up suddenly, it can also go down. It all depends on supply and demand: the rarer the item, the more expensive and sought after it will be in the player community. If this order is lower or lower than the day before, then the item may be devalued.
