Portugal wins Switzerland with CR7 show and wins 1st in the League of Nations

In another decisive performance by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal had no difficulty and beat Switzerland 4-0 this afternoon (5) at the José Alvalade Stadium for the second round of the group stage of the League of Nations.

He played in the first three goals of the CR7 match, all of which were included in the first half. William Carvalho bounced off a free kick that went just wide of the post. In the final stage, João Cancelo turned the result into a failure.

With the victory, the first of the tournament, Portugal took the lead in Group 2, with four points, the same score as the Czech Republic, which tied with Spain (third place, two points) today in Prague. The Portuguese take a 4-1 lead over the Czechs with a goal difference. The Brazilian team’s opponent in Qatar, Switzerland, at the World Cup, remains without adding a point and occupies the bottom of the key.

The next round will be on Thursday (9) at 15:45 (Brazilian time). Portugal faces the Czech Republic and plays again at the José Alvalade Stadium, while Switzerland welcomes Spain to Geneva.

Switzerland has a goal disallowed before 5 minutes

What became a smooth and controlled game for Portugal could have started with a bowl of cold water. On the first arrival of the attack, Switzerland opened the scoring. After a corner kick that went just wide of the post, Seferovic scored. The offer, however, was canceled after a VAR check, which caught a touch of Schär’s arm in the game.

William Carvalho enjoys the bounce after CR7’s “bomb”

Portugal’s response was swift. After the Swiss scare, the hosts took the lead 15 minutes into the match. Otávio was fouled on the edge of the area, and the referee sent a free kick. Cristiano Ronaldo sent a bomb (with a side) into the shot, and William Carvalho pushed it towards the door after Kobel advanced.

CR7 does two in four minutes and moves his mother

Despite taking part in the first goal, the start of the stars was timid, with little attacking production. In the last quarter of the first half, everything returned to normal. He scored two goals, once 35 and another 39, almost defining the game in typical striker moves.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, was in the stands at the stadium and was moved by her son’s goals for the national team.

The CR7 could have entered two more at the end of the first half, but missed two clear chances. Pep still hit the post in the opening phase, which could have ended with a pure Portuguese.

Cristiano Ronaldo was ruled out of the hat-trick

In the second half in Portugal’s first arrival, CR7 scored with Diego Jota and reached the third in the match, but the goal was disallowed. The star was ahead and was caught in an irregular position by the line player.

Let the account close

Portugal’s fourth goal touched Manchester City. Cancelo took advantage of a shot from Bernardo Silva who had just entered to remove Kobel and send him to the empty net. 4 to 0, a complete defeat and a celebration for the Portuguese fans.

Vargas was injured in the heat and lost to Switzerland

Before the ball was thrown, Switzerland had a last-minute foul. Winger Rúben Vargas was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. He started, but cut it short and watched the game from the stands. Lotomba was the replacement.
