Queen Elizabeth II, who is celebrating her “Platinum Jubilee”, has spent 70 years on the throne for a longer time than any other British king, facing social crises, family scandals and recent health problems.
Wearing a cane but smiling, wearing yellow from head to toe, the 96-year-old monarch made a surprise appearance at the opening of a new London Underground line named after him last week.
It was the first official event in months outside Windsort, after canceling participation in several events since October, due to growing mobility issues.

This led to the very symbolic “speech from the throne” to Parliament for the first time before the delegation of Prince Charles on 10 May, an important step in the progressive transition to the succession to monarchical functions.
But despite his age and illness, he continued to receive ambassadors and political leaders at Windsor Castle, as he had put his life at the service of the country for seven decades.

“For her, being queen is a big role, bigger than her,” Kate Williams, author of Young Elizabeth: The Making of a Queen, told AFP in 2012 on the 60th anniversary of her reign.

They had four children: Charles (1948), Anne (1950), Andrew (1960) and Edward (1964).
Elizabeth was in Kenya when her father died in February 1952 At the age of 25 she became queenalthough he was not crowned until 2 June 1953, the first and only British television coronation to date.

Eventually, he reached an out-of-court financial solution with one of the deputies, Virgina Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault at the age of 17.
In 2020, Harry left the monarchy and moved to California with Meghan, known to the press as “Megxit.”
