The career of the men’s volleyball team in the League of Nations had its first big challenge this Saturday (6/11). Renan Dal Zotto’s boys, like Brazil, faced a very strong team from the United States that was undefeated in the competition. The team’s service mistakes drew attention in one match, the visitors dominated and won with partials of 21/25, 27/25, 25/20 and 25/20.

As in the first two games, Brazil came on the court with significant fouls. Coach Renan was still unable to count on the injured Leal and Lucarelli, who should only return in the second round of the Nations League. Even defeated, Brazil had the highest goal scorer of the match. Alan Souza finished with 23 points.

The first set started with Brazil losing a lot of serve. However, the green-yellow team managed to balance the game by exploiting the American blocs well. Dal Zoto’s team reached the mandatory technical stop by winning by 12/11. In return, the first decisive factor in the set. Rodriguinho made a good serve and made an ace. After that, he prepared for the Brazilian national team and, with a good defense and decisive blocks, he closed 25/21.

The next half also had a close start, with both teams making minor mistakes. Unlike in the first set, the U.S. faced a mandatory time limit: 12/10. From there, the game remained balanced and the team began to lose some serve. The definition seemed to be in the details, which made Renan Dal Zotto stop the game when the scoreboard indicated 20/18 for the opponent. The break came into force and Brazil equalized on 23/23. The set was decided only with an American bloc, which closed on 27/25.

In the ensuing set, the balance was initially maintained, with both teams losing few serves. Until the obligatory stop, Brazil managed to take the lead by two points: 12/10. In return, the U.S. side made the difference and the U.S. turned the game around to 19/16, forcing the Brazilian coach to rest. In the final part of the set, the U.S. clearance, along with Brazil’s reception errors, were crucial for the North Americans to secure a 25/20 victory.

The Brazilian team started the fourth set without captain and main setter Bruninho. The Brazilian kick didn’t fit in the first half of the half and Dal Zotto forced the Americans to stop the game with a 9/6 lead. Until the mandatory break, the teams continued to exchange points, 12/9 for the US. The ball did not want to fall to the side of Brazil and the opponent opened the 20/16. At that moment, the crowd started to cheer more and the Brazilian narrowed the gap to 20/18. But the US came back to impose and closed out the 25/20 set and the game with a 3×1.
