5G delayed Goodbye iPod | Google I / O

Good morning. The week full of news was just a warm-up for what was to come in the coming weeks, with Microsoft Build (May 24-26) and Apple WWDC (June 6-10). We’ve had Google, a bunch of leaks, big posts, and Twitter’s indecisiveness (now on new levels). Good reading, recommend Interfaces to your friends and see you in the next issue, Henrique.

PS: Thank you for last week’s posts – they were great and many make sense of what we think about the future of the newsletter.

PS We are 2: 3 years old and we forgot to celebrate!

GOOGLE I / OEA COMPUTER ENVIRONMENT

Many of what Google shows every year at Google I / O presentations make us think that living in the future (albeit a little dystopian) is very nice.

Whether he’s preparing for a world of augmented reality (to mention the wrong term for the verse) – right now, not with the nonsense of Google Glass years ago – or with prototype glasses that translate languages into reality. time (a time when a technology presentation could not give want to cry).

Or even updating the maps of some of the world’s capitals and allowing them to enter public places (!) Is one of the “oooooh” moments of the conference.

But Google has something to do with the not-so-new concept of “computer science.” It’s the Nest Hub, with a screen that recognizes you and responds to commands without saying “OK Google” or the entire hardware line presented at the event.

There’s nothing for sale yet, but almost everything is priced, from smartwatches to headphones to mid-range to high-end smartphones. Everything Apple already does with its integrated hardware and software, the name of the computer in the environment and running Android 13 without a name.

There was also a commitment to betting on tablets, with software improvements (after all, folding smartphones are tablets) and the expectation of the previous generation with the launch of a Google-owned tablet in 2023. The tablet hasn’t come out yet, poor thing, but at one time it was considered ugly.

I lost my Nexus 7 (which caused a fight between Asus and Google in Brazil and only existed for the burning of an already imported stock, but that’s another story).

Hope: Great Google hardware. Reality for Brazilians: Almost Nothing (Google / Disclosure)

AGUR, IPOD

My first iPod was a 1st generation shuffle that looked like a big flash drive. Back then I still had a pair of iPod nanos (model with video, of course), another mix of those with a clip to fit in my pocket, and I ended up with an iPod touch (don’t ask which generation) that came with me. until many phones entered the scene.

Now, almost 21 years after the first iPod was released, the product – which doesn’t make much sense today – is out of style, with a press release announcing that the latest model will be on sale until stocks run out.

There’s a gadget that’s changed the world and we’re already nostalgic (waiting for a little iPod blanket, as Mac OS Finder already exists).

Original iPod: changed the history of music and Apple (Apple / Handout)

COME HERE

An iPhone with a USB-C connector? That’s what Dinah’s top market analysts say for 2023. Or simply to prepare applications for standardization of all manufacturers’ chargers by the European Union.

IT HAS NOT BEEN INFLUENCED

But if you, the dear reader, have the money to buy the recently announced high-end Xiaomi 12, which way would you choose: the official one for R $ 9,500 (more expensive than a 128 GB iPhone 13 Pro), or the direct import to those sites always recommended by youtubers, 3,500 In exchange for R $?

Our favorite conspiracy theory, which has been circulating in groups and conversations of journalists and actors, is that it doesn’t matter to the matrix: sell, where the money comes from.

With time: next week realme will announce its flagship GT2 Pro, with very similar details. Is it so expensive?

WHO SAID LAGO

Will the launch of 5G, already delayed, be further delayed in the Brazilian capitals?

FOLDING EDITORIAL (1)

Motorola is preparing a new version of the razr with a folding screen – the original product released and surpassed by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip – never got the prominence it deserved. We hope you have a better product.

And rumors / leaks also indicate that Motorola is working on a mobile phone. Check it out.

FOLDING EDITORIAL (2)

The second half is coming and rumors of Samsung’s folding folders are starting – the Samsung screen itself already has the potential to be used and shows leaks in Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4.

Foldable, but now looks like a Galaxy S22 Ultra (OnLeaks / Playback)

IT HAS ARRIVED

After a few months of waiting, Amazon launched it Echo Show 15, Alexa hanging on the wall. We liked it a lot (it’s the first Echoa with a screen that we found very useful) and the review is on its way.

GREEN

Lenovo now allows Brazilian buyers to offset carbon in the manufacture of ThinkPad, Legion and Yoga lines, but the program only works if you buy a new computer on the brand’s website. We wonder if this kind of action really defines a purchase or just sympathy.

POST-CDa

We first switched from vinyl to CD, then to MP3 and then back to vinyl. Now it’s time to make another change: … CD-vinyl (!) Is coming. It sounds weird, but it promises great sound quality.

AMAZON WEEK INDEX

CABLE TELEVISION CALL?

Having a Netflix with cheaper plans with ads makes us think that the consolidation of streaming will start soon. Netflix, hitherto a favorite of critics and viewers alike, has become a “joke.” Argh.

MASHUPAS IN 2022 ONLY POSSIBLE

Dolly Parton and Doja Cat are in a Taco Bell Mexican pizza ad for TikTok. Yes it is serious. It’s also amazing that a traditional horse race – the Kentucky derby – has almost the audience of TikTok.

ELON, WE’RE BORED

This week, Elon Musk said so Trump can return, as this is possible.

It also sparked a silly discussion use of straw – It’s a roulette wheel randomness the man’s head is spinning. I think you discovered Twitter yesterday, but this is 2022, not 2011, where such innocence was better accepted.

Now you can opt out of the transaction: the second Musk, the purchase has been suspended and today (13) the shares are already in free fall. Joke, as always, it’s free.

The reason for the interruption is that the number of fake accounts on the platform is being reviewed. As of yesterday (12), the market value of Twitter has already dropped $ 9 billion since the announcement of the purchase and Twitter heads are starting to spread.

Otherwise, it’s worth reading the profile of the guy who takes care of the Musk family’s money.

CLONE

Come on, there’s a deep Elon Musk clone / fake in China. The original doesn’t even know if it’s real or not – we’re betting on the noise.

PASSAGE OPERATION

Facebook, I mean Meta, spends millions on a project to clean up or protect Mark Zuckerberg’s image. Too late for that, right? Well, if Bill Gates had …
